CTMP (Mosport) Driver Development Track Re-Development: A Work in Progress

Yesterday DriveTeq was at the CTMP Grand Prix track with our friends at Engineered Automotive and on the way home from another great event, we took the time to make a quick stop at the gates of the Driver Development Track (the “DDT”).

For many who may read this blog, as you already know the DDT has been home to various events and training activities over the years including home to the Bridgestone Racing Academy.  It has also been home to several DriveTeq related training events over the past year and a half.

For those who have never visited or only vaguely know what we are talking about, the DDT is another racing circuit (next door to the large Grand Prix track) at CTMP known for its technical nature and modest change in elevation.  It also had the added benefit of being transformable into various configurations.  Right alongside of the track was a large parking pad that was home to many driving exercises where first timers and experienced folks have spent time training in car dynamics.  And, of course, the skid pad was positioned just below the parking pad where many a new driver circled in amazement learning the dynamics of “understeer” and “oversteer”.  Tire testing, corporate events and the Bridgestone Racing Academy racing schools have all been held at this adjacent facility.

Now, you can observe from the pictures that significant changes have begun for 2014!  The oval track appears from a distance to have been largely removed and the skid and parking pads have been torn up.  We don’t have the details on the new design but anticipate there will be excellent improvements and some great days to look forward to next year in this re-developed area of one of North America’s great road racing facilities.

We think the changes to the DDT area will be a wonderful compliment to the many improvements at the Grand Prix circuit.  We are eagerly anticipating more information and hope to share it with you as it becomes available to us.
